Tunisia Celebrates World Maritime Women’s Day
International Day for Women in Maritime
Tunisia, like other countries around the world, is celebrating today, Saturday, May 18, 2024, the International Day for Women in Maritime, established this year by the International Maritime Organization under the theme “Stable Perspectives: Women, the Heart of the Future of Maritime Security.”
This celebration acknowledges the essential role of women in the global maritime transport industry and highlights their contributions in this sensitive and vital sector. This field requires specific abilities, skills, and knowledge due to the rapidly evolving nature of maritime professions, encompassing logistics, knowledge, and technology. It also aims to elevate the status of women in the sustainable maritime sector and provide a broader and renewed perspective on the determination of women who have confidently and resolutely engaged in this field. Through this celebration, the International Maritime Organization reinforces its commitment to Goal 5 of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG5) regarding gender equality and raises awareness of the need to create a balanced and barrier-free work environment to encourage women to participate in all maritime specialties.
